The Alcon Vivity lens is an innovative extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) engineered to deliver a wider and more continuous range of clear vision following cataract surgery, surpassing the capabilities of traditional monofocal lenses. What sets the Vivity apart is its unique, non-diffractive technology. Instead of splitting light, it gently stretches and shifts light to create a seamless continuum of vision, extending from distance to intermediate. This distinctive approach is designed to minimize the common visual disturbances such as glare and halos that can sometimes be associated with diffractive multifocal or EDOF lenses, while still providing excellent vision at far and intermediate distances. While the Vivity lens offers superior intermediate range vision compared to a standard monofocal IOL, it's important to note that some patients may experience a slight decrease in contrast sensitivity. A significant advantage of the Vivity lens is its ability to neutralize astigmatism, offering a more comprehensive vision correction.
